Band Excursion and Methodist Sunday School Picnic.

A trip on the river when all the elements are favourable, with a good boat and plenty of music, is certainly one of Foxton's greatest pleasures, and those who took the opportunity afforded yesterday had a most enjoyable day. The Methodist people rolled up very well indeed, and about 0.30 the " Planet " left the wharf well laden with parents and children, to be followed a little later by the "Tuna" with more friends and the members of the band. When a little more than half way the " Tuna " overtook the " Planet " and made fast to the punt, and with the two steamers Piaka was soon reached. The " Florence " had already arrived from Shannon with a good crowd, and who were waiting to welcome the Foxton friends. After the billy had been boiled and ample refreshments disposed of, all kinds of games were set going, runs* for the children, jumping for the big boys, &c, &c, and everybody bad a thorough, good time. 'At 4.30 a start was madefor home after three cheers had been given for Mr O. Gardner, wno ? had been most kind in looking after the welfare of the visitors. The band played a number of selections in fine stylo, and at 6 o'clock the wharf was reached and everybody was highly satisfied with their day on the river.
