Replying to a communication an-n-Mincing that the Freedom of the City of Liverpool is to be conferred upon him, Lord Roberts stated that he would be unable to receive the Freedom until January next. Lord Roberts has cabled to the Viceroy of India that, although the war is nearly over, it is essential that Lumsden's Horse, a body of cavalry raised in India, should remain until the end. FIGHTING STILL PROCEEDING. The forces under Generals French and Mahon are clearing the country in the eastern Transvaal, between Machadodorp and Heidelberg. General French occupied Carolina on the 14th, capturiag a convoy. Major-General Lyttelton's troops are marching on Middleburg, on the Delagoa Bay railway line. MR KRUGER. Mr Kruger's luggage on being place aboard the steamer Genderland was carefully searched by Portuguese officials. CORRUPTION OF THE PRESS. Investigations show that the Netherlands Railway Company and Mr Reitz heavily subsidised pro-Boer journalists including a payment of £5000 to the " Stardard and Diggers' News" and £1000 to Mr Hargrove, one of Dr Leyds 1 agents, who recently went on a " mission of pacification" in Northern Cape Colony with the Hon. J. W. Saver. BOER COMMANDOES IN THE SOUTH. Commandoes from two hundred to twelve hundred strong are located in the Kroon-.tad district, on the main line of railwny running through Or ing? River Colony. A Bnr f-irc* is threatening Philip polls, in 'he extreme south pf Orange River Colony. Seven Boers were wounded in the engagement. CHASING DE WET. Colonial troops are closely pursuing General Christian De Wet in districts on the Vaal. MARAUDERS AT LARGE. Five hundred thieving Boers are harrying a number ot Free Staters near Standerton. SKIRMISHING IN THE WEST. A patrol of Australian Bushmen encounfered seventy Boers at Ottos Hoep, near Mafekingon the iath. One Bushman was killed, two were wounded, and one is missing. The Boers retired, leaving nine wounded behind. Major General Settle has occupied Bloemhof un^pp ised. BOERS CAUGHT IN AMBUSH. Colonel Bethune's troops ambushed a Boer commando near Vryheid. Sixty of the enemy were killed, thirty-five wounded and sixty five captured. FIGHTING STILL GOING ON. Constant skirmishing in going on with small marauding bands of the enemy around Wepener, Ventersburg, Wulverdicnd and Standerton. The. Boer casualties invariably oxcoed those <
of the British, besides which many marauders are being captured. REVIEW OF COLONIAL TROOPS. Lord Roberts reviewed detachments ot the West Australians, Victorians, Tasmanians, South Australians and Queenslanders at Pretoria. He thanked them for their services and claimed that he was the only Field-Marshal who had reviewed a conquering Imperial Army. Lord Roberts added that, although the war was over, important work remained to be done, requiring a cont nuation of the services and enthusiasm of the troops. MISCELLANEOUS. A German missionary at Durban named Pronzesty, has been sentenced to a year's imprisonment and fined £500 for treason.
