Foxton Borough Council.

The ordinary monthly meeting was held last night at 7.30 o'clock. Present — His Worship the Mayor (Cr. W. B. Rhodes), and Cra F. E. Jenks, P. Hennessy, W. Purcell, C. T. Austin and H. Baker. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The inward and outward correspondence was read. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Jenks, That a fence be erected around cycle ground on Victoria Park, the same not to cost more than £6. Carried. Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Purcell, That the clerk write to Mr Buxton informing him that this Council cannot make any recommendation re train service. Carried. Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Austin, That the clerk be instructed j to forward Mr T. F. Martin a rough ' sketch plan of the Wirokino Ferry Reserve as requested in his letter of 27th September, 1900. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Hennessy, That a special meet--1 ing of this Council be held on Tuesday,

the 9th inst. t& take steps for conversion of bridge loan. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Hennessy, That this Council strongly objects to any sewerage being run into the Manawatu River, and that all possible steps be taken forthwith to prevent any public body from causing a nuisance which would certainly arise, should such discharge be made into the river, and that the clerk be instructed to send a copy of this resolution to the Palmerston North Borough Council. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Austin, That the matter of fencing road on Moutoa Estate be held over till next meeting. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Jenks, That Mr Speirs be allowed to erect scaffolding in front of Manawatu Hotel, same to be to satisfaction of Council, and according to bye-laws. Carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Baker, That this Council agrees to let the cottage and foreman's hut at Wirokino Bridge to the Manawatu River Company for a term of one year, subject to the Council not requiring possession of same at a rental of four shillings per week, and that their offer to take down, oil and store the old ferry wire for a sum of thirty shillings be accepted. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Hennessy, That the report of the Inspector of Nuisances be adopted. Carried. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Purceil, That the overseer's report be adopted, and that repairs to bridges in Main-street and the Avenue be attended to at once, and that a notice be placed on the bridge over Government drain notifying people that anyone carrying a greater weight than twenty cwt. do so at their own risk. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Hennessy, That in tuture the ordinary meetings of this Council be held on the second Monday of each month at 7.30 p.m., instead of the first Monday as at present. Carried. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Purcell, That the accounts as read be passed for payment. Carried. Propossd by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Purcell, That owing to the destruction of the Manawatu Hotel by fire, a proportionate reduction be made in Mr "Wanklyn's rates for this year, and that the Council accept half the amount due. Carried.
