Methodist Social.

♦ The social given by Mr and Mrs J. W. Walsh on Tuesday evening proved an unqualified success. The attendance was large and the church funds will benefit to the extent of five pounds. The programme was opened by a selection from the orchestra under the leadership of Mr J. Kearsley ; Miss May Cozens followed with a recitation, "A leap for life," after which Mrs Chambers gave a song ; Miss Howan and Miss B. Osborne then gave a most amusing dialogue, which caused great fun ; Miss Spring sang •• Fiona" ; Mr A. Saunders recited i: The Patriot," and Mr Hickson sang " Sailing," which was most enthusiastically encored ; Mr A. Morgan recited an amusing skit on the Road Board, who had determined to eradicate thistles; Mr Bray was encored for his rendering of the " Seventh Royal Fusiliers " ; Mr T. Westwood asked three most amazing riddles, but some of the boys were equal to the answers. Supper was handed round, and enjoyed most heartily, Mrs Walsh providing a most excellent repast. On resuming, the orchestra rendered another fine selection, which was given well ; Mr Drummond sang " Love's Serenade," and had to respond to an encore; Miss E. Perreau gave a recitation and Mr Hickson another song ; Mr Bray rendered a German song which delighted the audience ; Mrs Chambers recited " Billy's rose " in good style, and Misses Spring and Furrie rendered a duet on the pianoforte. Mr J. Kearsley played the accompaniments. The Rev. W. Woollass moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Walsh md all the performers, which was carried heartily, and the singing of the National Anthem brought a very enjoyable gathering to a close.
