Society of Christian Endeavour.
The World's Convention of the Society of Christian Endeavour was held at Alexandra Palace, London from the 13th to the 18th of July, during which time the Convention held full possession of the palace. It was the largest religious assembly ever known in London. Five hundred of the male delegates camped on the grounds, and the banqueting hall was used a as ladies dormitory. The delegates numbered nearly 18,000, 2,000 of whom came from the United States alone. The first Christian Endeavour Society was formed on February 2nd 1881, at Portland, Maine, by the Rev. Francis Clark, a native of Canada. There are now 56,223 societies with a membership of 3,350,000. There are 32,320 societies in the United States, 3,533 in Canada, 70 in France, 90 in Germany, 36 in Spain, 456 in India, 15 in Burma, 148 in China, 2,282 in Australasia, a large number in South Africa, several in Egypt, 93 in Madagascar, 57 .in .Turkey. 73 in Hawaii, 105 in Jamaica, 35 in Sweden, 4 in Brazil, and 3 in Rugsia.
