THE NATIVES THREATEN BOTHA.
Since August the 25th General Buller's casualties totalled 270 The Boers lost many more than that.
The natives in the Lydenburg district threaten to prevent General Botha crossing the Steelport River. Already they are looting the Boer cattle.
The fighting around Ladybrand has ceased. The British garrison did not hold the town, but entrenched themselves on the mountain opposite. For three days the Boers shelled the British. There were only five casualties. When General Bruce Hamilton approached on Tuesday evening tho Boers fled, after looting Ladybrand and capturing troops of British horses through an escaped prisoner revealing where they were concealed.
