Methodist Social.
The social held on Monday evening was well attended in spite of the inclemency of the weather. The programme was opened by a selection on the violin by Mr J. Kearsley, accompanied on the piano by Miss C. Austin. Mr Hickson then sang with great success " I'm rather too old for it now," and had to repeat the last verse for an encore ; Mr Woollass gave a new song, " As you have grown whiter I will love you more," which was encored ; Mr S. Ennissang" The Yeoman's Wedding," and had to come back for an encore : Mr Drummond sang " The Island of dreams" in capital style, and for an encore gave " That is love," a parody ; Mr Bray gave " Keep the home together John," and as an encore gave a most amusing talk on " The courtship of a country girl " which provoked great laughter; a musical selection, " Larboard Watch," was given by Mr S. Ennis, cornet, Mr T. Betty, euphonium, and Mr J. Kearsley, piano. After supper, which was handed round, and games had been indulged in, Mr Bray gave the song " That is love," and had to respond to an encore ; Mr Hickson gave another song, which was encored ; Mr Woollass sang " Beauty's E}'es " and Mr S. Eowan " Annie Laurie." Mr G. Simpson moved a very hearty vote of thanks to all the performers, and said that a more enjoyable way of spending an evening could Fcarcely be found, and good as some of the previous socials had been the present one was just as good. Mr T. West wood seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously, the singing of the national anthem brought the meeting to a close.
