Foxton Borough Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting was i held last night at the Library Build- M ings, at 7.30. Present— His Worship the Mayor (Cr W. B. Rhodes), and Crs Jenks, Purcell, Aldridge, Austin, Baker, and Spelman. The minutes of the previous meetings held were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read and dealt . with. J Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Purcell, That the deposit of R. Rand be returned to him. Carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Baker, That the Town Clerk order a second tank to be placed on Avenue well before the dry weather sets in. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Aldridge, That the Town Clerk inform Mr Robt. Chapman that the vote for clerical assistance in connection with licensing accounts has always been paid in advance, and that this Council cannot recognise any claim. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Jenks, That the Town Clerk inform the Manager of Bank of N.Z., Foxton, that the overdrawn accounts of this Council as they stood on 31st March last are chargeable against the present year's income, viz., from Ist April, 1900, to 31st March, 1901. Carried* Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Purcell, That McGill's wages be 6s " per day wet and dry. Carried. The Council then went into committee. On resuming, Cr Purcell proposed, seconded by Cr Jenks, That the Clerk be instructed to write to the Manager of the Moutoa Estate informing him that if the road adjoining the estate is not fenced within one month the Coun: cil will have to remove the gate adjoining No. 6 Line as there are numer- , bus complaints about the stock undermining the hill. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Jenks, That the daymen be instructed to reform, and re-metal with Palmerston metal, the portion of footpath in Main-street between Mr Hunter's Hotel and Union-street at an early date. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Aldridge, That the accounts in connection with the opening of the Wirokino bridge be passed for payment and that the Town Clerk write to other contributing bodies for their proportion of the same. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Austin, That the sum of £8 be voted towards cost of opening ceremony at Wirokino bridge on 30th July, 1900. Carried. Proposed by Cr Spelman, seconded by Cr Aldridge, That the Mayor's honorarium this year be £25. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Aldridge, That the reports as read be adopted. Carried. Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Aldridge, That the Rate Collector be instructed to sue for all outstanding rates on and after the Ist October next, and to take one or more names from each letter of the alphabet as they appear in the Rate Book. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Austin, That the accounts as read be passed for payment. Carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Baker, That a committee consisting of the Mayor and Crs Jenks and Purcell and the mover be appointed to inspect and report on the Wirokino ferry plant and reserve. Carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Baker, That this Council give effect to the recommendation of the Government Engineer by planting willows on river bank immediately above the bridge. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Austin, That the Overseer be instructed to take soundings across river a chain above the bridge and also at bridge, and Town Clerk forward a copy of same to Engineer, and again in three months' time. Carried. Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Austin. That the offer of Mr B. G. Gower of ironstone on his property adjoining No. 1 Line for spreading on said Line be accepted with thanks, and that the Overseer be instructed to carry out the work. Carried. The Council then adjourned.
