COLONEL HELYAR MURDERED. Lord Koberts reports that the Boers murdered Colonel C H. Helyar, of the linperia 1 Yeomanry. Two men have been arrested on suspicion, and will be tried by courtmartial. GENERAL BULLER. General Duller is twenty miles south of Wonderfontein. His advance is practically unopposed. Eight hundred Boers, with six guns, are at Lake Chrissie. The .recent surrender at Standerton has' crushed the opposition in the south-eastern Transvaal. General Buller is in touch with General French's scouts. Commandant Ollivier is near Heilbron. Reuter's correspondent states that Commandant De Wet is beyond Ventersdorp, trying to join De La Rey at Rustenburg. General Kitchener is pressing Commandant De Wet hard. Ex-President Kruger is sounding the American Government as to whether the American Consul at Delagoa Bay will accord him a sanctuary. The Evening News says the treatment of the colonial contingents in South Africa needs the severest in-
vestigation. The nation will implacably resent any shadow of injustice or unnecessary hardship to these splendid troops.
