Rear-Admiral Seymour has sent two battleships and two cruisers to Shanghai, despite the declaration of the Viceroy that the presence of war vossels at Shanghai would provoke a disturbance. THE EFFORT TO MAKE TERMS. Li Hung Chang has assured the Consuls that the Government has sufficient control over the regular troops and the Boxers to ensure the safe conduct of the Ministers to Tientsin if hostilities were suspended. He further asserted that Sir Robert Hart (the Director of the Imperial Maritime Customs), recently reported to have been killed, was alive, but did not regard the fate of the other foreigners at Pekin as important. THE ALLIES TO ADVANCE ON PEKIN. The Allies have decided to advance on Pekin along the Tientsin- Pekin railway. The ringleader of the Secret Triad Society has been arrested. He was preparing an attack on Canton.
TERRIBLE OUTRAGE AT A CATHEDRAL.
Details of outrages on Christians at Mukden are to hand. The Chinese troops pretended to protect the service at the Cathedral, but at a given signal they surrounded and set fire to the building, only the Bishops escaping. Subsequently the Bishops were taken before the Viceroy's Council and tortured and decapitated. An Italian priest, who arrived at Hongkong from Hnnau, escaped in a coffin which friendly natives carried.
