British and Foreign Bible Society.
A meeting of the above Society will be held, at the Primitive Methodist Schoolroom on Wednesday next, Aug. ist, at 7.30 o'clock. This Society exists for the purpose of circulating the Scriptures in every language and now prints the Bible, or portions of it. in about 351 different languages or dialects, and last year reached a total of 4,480,000, and by means of depots and 725 Colporteurs and 552 Biblewomen, seeks to put these into the hands of every person in every part of the world, especially in those parts where the ordinary missionary cannot go. It employs 30a colporteurs in China alone, and last year circulated 728,000 copies principally portions and in some places the Bible has been made a text book in the Civil Service Examinations. The agent for New Zealand, the Rev. F. H. Spencer will give an address npon ♦•Malaysia," illustrated with lantern views. He is endeavouring to incorporate tb* Society into the church life of all denominations ; as it is a society whose work is essential to the very benne es*e of all Churches and their Home and Foreign Missions. It is hoped a hearty response will be made to the invitation to attend the meeting.
