Dairymen in Council.
The National Dairy Association met at Stratford on Tuesday. The business in the morning was mostly of an executive nature. Mr Harkness was in the chair and was again re-elected president.
A resolution was passed practically debarring exporters from buying the produce of factories not belonging to the Association. A resolution was passed asking the Minister to press legislation to relieve co-operative dairies of Income tax ; also that in the opinion of the meeting it is desirable that dairy produce for exportation be sent direct from the factory to the cool storage at Wellington.
That the attention of the Minister of Agricultural be called to the fact that several co-operative dairy factories have already paid Income tax on last year's returns, and if the Lan-J and Income Tax Department declines to refund that amount he be requested to place a sufficient sum on the supplementary estimates to reimburse the dairy companies the amount paid to the Income Tax Department, and that a copy of this and other resolutions be forwarded to the Hon. Mr Duncan.
That the Association to place on record its appreciation of the work done by the Government on behalf of the dairy industry in the colony and in this connection especially wish to express its thanks to Mr J. D. Ritchie, Secretary of Agriculture, for the manner in which he has taken in hand the initiation work of instruction in grading, freeezing and general improvements of our pro-
ducts
Addresses were delivered by Mr McEwen on " Our markets," Mr Lang " Inspection ■of sheds and herds," and by Mr McGowan on '•' Dairy equipment."
The Executive was entertained at a banquet in the evening by the Stratford Chamber of Commerce.
The meeting recommended the holding of next annual meeting at Palmerston North.
