Opening of the Wirokino Bridge.

The committee formed in connection with the above function met yesterday afternoon and settled certain details. It was reported that Mr A. C. Stansell would have the public hall nicely decorated for the luncheon, and it was decided that music should be provided, consisting of a piano and violin.

The members of the Borough Council were appointed ushers to show the public to the seats allotted to them, it being arranged that the names or numbers shall be placed on each plate. Owing to the probable absence of the Mayor it was decided to invite Me Mr W. H. Simcox, the chairman of the Horowhenua County, to take the head of the table, and Crs Kebbell and Davies were appointed vice-chairmen, so that our neighbouring County will be well to the fore. The chairman of the Manawatu County would have been asked to fill one of these seats only it was understood he would be very unlikely to attend, but should he do so one of the vice-chairmen would abdicate in his favour.

The toast list is a short one, owing to the limited time, and will be those of the Queen and His Excellency the Governor proposed by the chairman, and to which His Excellency will reply ; the Ministers and Parliament, to be proposed by Cr Kebbell, and to which it is hoped the Rt. Hon. the Premier will answer ; the engineer and contractors which Cr Davies will propose, and probably Mr Fulton will acknowledge ; the Local Bodies, coupled with the name of Mr J. R. Stansell, ex- Mayor, which Mr Jenks, Acting- Mayor, will propose, and Mr Stansell will respond. Thus far for the dinner. On the arrival tof the train at Foxton, the member will introduce the Mayor to His Excellency the Governor, and the Town Clerk, Mr Alf. Fraser, will read the Borough's address, to which the Governor will shortly reply. The loyal Maoris of the district intend being present in some force and will offer a loyal welcome to the Governor, and either Mr John Stevens or the Hon. Mr Carrol will be asked to interpret. On the train arriving at the platform, which is to be decorated with bunting, the school children will be arranged and will sing God Save the Queen accompanied by the Foxton Brass Band. Each child present will receive a packet of lollies and an orange to refresh them after their exertions. The Governor will then be conducted to the Flower of Kent, and the Wellington visitors to the Matara, the Brass Band enlivening the departure by pleasing strains. We understand that very light refreshments will be placed on board these boats. On arriving at the bridge the Governor and visitors will land, and will probably be met by many settlers, and he will be asked by the ActingJayor to declare the bridge open for ramc which he will do by unlocking i padlock secured by gay ribbons icross the bridge. The key of the padlock will be of silver and suitably inscribed and His Excellency will be isked to retain it as a memento, of his undertaking this duty. The party will then return to Foxton .md the Governor will visit the rooms reserved for him at Whyte's Hotel. Mr and Mrs A. C. Stansell are inxious to make the day notable, and it is tfieir intention in the evening to invite all the children to a dance in the 'iall, and a certain number of adults .vill be admitted for a small payment. The committee, which consits of all the Borough and County Councillors, and Mr E. S. Thynne will be lecorated with badges of green and white ribbons as a slight compliment to the country the Governor comes from.

Mr W. Purcell has been asked to act as Marshall at the railway station.
