The Mafeking Locusts.

An ex-member of the Intelligence Branch, Soutli Africa, wrifes in the Christchurch Press : — The story about the garrison of Mafekitte making desperate efforts to catch locusts to supplement their food supplies is not only possible but very probable. Locust bread is considered a great delicacy by the Kaffirs. We can say from actual trial of it, that it is very good indeed. It^s appearance is very inviting to the eye, being somewhat of a bright yellowish rtint, suggestive of cake. It is very wholesome, clean food, and just the thing to give the gallant fellows in Mafeking a new lease of hope. We sincerely trust that while the siege lasts locusts will sweep over the beleaguered town in swarms, for with such supplies com* ing as it were from heaven, the Boers will lose heart and in their superstitious minds it will seem as if the .lmighty is working for the deliverance of the -defendant W <#Nfc
