Opening of St. Joseph's, Shannon.
« His Grace Archbishop Redwood opened and blessed the new Catholic Church in Shannon on Sunday last. It was dedicated to and named after St. Joseph. There were three services during the day. His Grace celebrated first mass at 7.80 am., And at 11 £ m solemn high mass was intoned by Rev. F Melu. The church - was simply packed, many not being able to gain admission. A benediction service was held at 7pm His Grace preached on each occasion, his first sermon being appropriate to the occasion of the day, and the other regarding the great feast of Easter. The Foxton choir journeyed over to Shannon, and at 11 am. they sang Webb's Mass in G ; at the benediction service at 7 in the evening " 0 Salutaris," composed by Mr Kearsley, junr., was sung, and which was highly spoken of. Miss O'Brien presided at the organ, and was ably assisted by Mr Kearsley. Over £40 was collected at the 11 o'clock ser- • vice, leaving a small deficit of about -£10.
