Foxton Borough Council.
-♦- A special meeting of the above, was held last night at 7.30. All the Councillors were present, with the exception of Cr Baker. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Jenks, That this Council, while acknowledging his past good services, accepts with regret Mr Chapman's resignation as town clerk, and also glftnt him 14 days leave as from 14th May next, in place of usual Xmas holidays not taken by him. Carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr )enks, That Mr St. Hill be appointed Bridge Inspector and temporary town clerk, if required, at a salary of £3 per week. Carried. Proposed by Cr Pnrcell, seconded by Cr Austin, That applications be invlfed for the position of Town Clerk at a salary of £50 a year, and Inspector of Nuisances and Slaughterhouses at a salary of Ao and fees, also for the position of librarian, with free house, wood, light, &c, and that a committee ; consisting of His Worship the Mayor, Cr Austin and the mover be appointed ♦fcidraw up schedule of duties. Applications to close on the 7th day of May, at 7 p.m. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Jenks, That a tence be erected between Mr Furrie's house and the old cemetery, also that all the fences be put in order round the said cemetery. Carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Aldridge, That the thanks of this Council be tendered to, Mr J. Dixon for providing labour free* of charge for new window in tbe public reading room. Carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Spelman, That Mr P. Hennessy be allowed to purchase thirty shillings worth of gravel from this Council. Carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Spelman, That the sum of £83 6s t id, costs of late licensing election be passed for payment. Carried.
