FOXTON C.C. v. TAIKOREA C.C. The return match between these Clubs was played in the Victoria Park at Foxton on Saturday and resulted in a rather easy win for the local team with six wickets to spare. However, as the Taikorea oaptain declared his second innings closed, when seven of his wickets had fallen for 61, it might perhaps be a question what the result would have been, if there had been full time to play out the game. The moral of which is that punctuality is a virtue at all times, and especially on the cricket : field. The batting of neither side I was marked by any particular brilliance, many of the players suffering as per usual from want of practice; but Nye's 85 in the first innings of Foxton was a creditable performance, | and compiled by patient, careful play. This player, who is one of the steadiest supporters and exponents of the noble game in this district, undoubtedly deserved his luck. For Taikorea Wright played a steady game for bis 11 (not out); while Bowater (14), and Harper (16) also exhibited good form. The bowling on both sides was very good indeed. Furrle, for" Foxton, proved almost unplayable, his total of 6 wickets for 8 runs in the first innings being a reall^ brilliant performance ; and the fast deliveries of Alf Morgan were eye-openers not to be trifled with. Far Tai&orea Harper and Stansell did yeoman's serrice, keeping down runs by consistently good bowling. The fielding on both sides may be characterized as good. The visitors were entertained in good old English style by the local team at Hunter's Family Hotel, and afternoon tea was provided by several ladies interested in the Club, who were at the close heartily cheered for their verj opportune and thoughtful kindness.
