Foxton Borough Council.

A special meeting of the above was held last night at 7.80 o'clock. Present— The Mayor (Cr W. B. Rhodes), and Crs. F: E. Jenks, C. T.Austin, W. Purcell, H. Aldridge and Baker. Tenders for lamplighting were opened as follows: — H. Anreason, £31 ; P. Guerin, £87. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Purcell, That the tender of P. Guerin be accepted for lamplighting up to December 81st, 1900. Carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Baker, That Wednesday next be proclaimed a public holiday. Carried. Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Purcell, That the Mayor, and Councillors Austin, Baker and Aldridge be a committee to report on the planting of trees at the Foxton Sanatorium, and to furnish plans of same to the Government, and to apply for the subsidy of £50 already granted. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Jenks, That the Clerk take the necessary steps to apply for the money, £ 200 granted by Parliament for snagging the Manawatu River. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Jenks, That the engineer arrange to have the raising of the road at the South approach of Wirokino Bridge carried out in accordance with the resolution of the Horowhenua County Council, and charge cost to that Council. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Austin, That as Mr Wilkie, Inspector of Stock, has not given the information requested by His Worship the Mayor in his letter of the 18th instant, that the attention of the Chief Government Veterinarian be called to the fact that Mr Wilkie's inspection of the dairy cows in this district was not nearly so thorough as this Council expected, and his report is couched in such general terms that it is incomplete. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Aldridge, That as persons whose occupation is not rabbitting, but who occasionally catch 4 a few rabbits for pastime and replenishing the larder are applying for dog collars at 2s 6d each, that it be an instruction to the Registrar of Dogs to refuse registering such person's dogs ; at the reduced fee. Carried. Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Purcell, That as the Manawatu County Council has not responded to the request of this Council for its contribution toward the cost of Wirokino Bridge now due, and with a view of meeting this and other calls, application be made to the Treasury for a further instalment of the loan to the amount of £500. Carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Purcell, That considering the extraordinary cost of the last LicenBing Committee election, and with a "view of minimising the cost of the forthcoming election, the Returning Officer be requested to obtain tenders for all printing required from the various printing offices, and that the advertising be reduced to the lowest possible dimensions. Carried. The Council then adjourned.
