TO THS3 BDITOR OV THE MAHAWATO HBBALD,
Sir, — Bubonic has in his letter of the 3th insulted the butchers, storekeepers, butter suppliers, the town clerk and itself.
Mr Chapman is doing his duty to the Council's satisfaction, and has reported that the town generally if? clean and nee from nuisance ; as to the slaughter housos he reports there is nothing to complain of; perhaps (but I hope he won't) he may find a Hum in Bubonic's back yard, as people of his class generally are the ones who want the most looking after. It has been, and is my intention to look after the public health so he had better look after his back yard. Come forward like a man Bubonic and tell me where rotten butter is retailed. You may be one who goes in for stale butter just to save a penny per pound — too mean to buy good butter. Mr Chapman was appointed by the Council as bridge inspector, and as such has been carrying out his duties. If Bubonic will call at the Council office he will find our town clerk attending to his duties on the appointed days. I am, &c, W. B. Rhodes, | Mayor, J
