Stock Market.
♦ Messrs Abraham and Williams report : — Sales last week have been held at Pohangina, Makuri and Palmerston North. At Pohangina the advertised ; entry of stock came forward. Bidding j at auction was lifeless, buta'satisfactory clearance was made after the sale. At Makuri last Friday we had a large j yarding of cattle which made full value. The entry of sheep was con- j fined to one pen of fat ewes and j wethers. The attendance was good and competition very brisk, resulting in a " clean slate " under the hammer. At Palmerston we had a large yarding ■ of all classes of stock. The general j tone oi the market was much easier , and bidding was not at all spirited. : A large entry of lambs came forward . and prices suffered a further decline ' on previous rates. One particular good line of shorn Border Leicester wether lambs .sold, on account of Messrs Nelson « Bros., of Woodville, realised 7s gd. Cattle sold on a par : with last week's quotations and practically the whole yarding was cleared. Pigs are still almost un- j saleable. j We quote :— j At Palmerston- 4-year-old bullocks! £5 10s, 3-year bullocks £4 15s, aj to ' 3-year steers £3 16s, iB-months well- j bred steers £2 12s 6d, i5-month quiet i heifers £2 17s 6d, 2 to 2^-year empty heifers £3 7s 6d, weaners 17s 6d to £1 39 6d, fat cows £3 13s to £4 6s, 4tooth wethers gs gd, fat ewes 8s 3d to , 8s 7d, shorn lambs 6s to 7s, shorn Border Leicester wether lambs 7s gd, { woolly lambs 7s 6d, cull lambs 4s 6d, ! full-mouth ewes 6s to 7s 6d, porkers ! £1 is, store pigs 15s. |
