The Race Meeting.

- ♦ On Saturday and Monday next the Summer Meeting of the Foxton Racing Club will be held. We*look forward to this meeting being the largest in point of attendance that has yet been held, as the nominations exceeded by 4a more than have ever been received, and the acceptances are also much larger than usual. The people all round the district are doing well, owing to the increased 1 1

price of wool, and butter, not to mention hemp. The large number of mill employees, who are all in receipt of big wages, will also help to swell the attendance, and this meeting falling upon the last public holiday for many months, point to the likelihood of every one taking advantage of the cheap railway fares to have one more good holiday for the last. The Club have endeavoured to make this meeting better than ever by giving £ 50 more in prizes, and also one extra race to the usual programme. Owing to the wonderful weather we have had the course is in the best of condition and the going should satisfy owners and public alike. The handioappei for the Club, Mr Henrys, has been exceedingly successful in his allotment of weights so that close finishes and large pools on the totalisator are only what can be looked for. The catering, for which this club has earned its name, is in first-class hands and visitors will find as good a luncheon, if not better, to be had at a reasonable price. The publicans' booths having been purchased by Mr Wanklyn is a guarantee that only the best of liquors will be sold. Some woman is stated to have said that the only way to make a man good tempered is'to feed the beast well, and if this is true, and there looks a lot in it, the men visitors should be happy all day and both days. The Secretary, Mr Whyte, is so well-known up and down the coast for his courtesy, patience, and care, that horse-owners are glad to know he is still at his post. He has everything well in hand and he will not be to blame if a great success is not achieved. The totalisator will be worked by Messrs Spriggins and Neylon, who are past-masters in the work of taking and paying out the money, so .many are always eager to invest* The Foxton Brass Band will play a capital selection of music each day.
