GENERAL FRENCH'S tROOPS. Further particulars are to hand relative to the recent engagement between a section of Major-Generai French's troopa aud the Boe/9 near Rensburg. It appears that owing to a blinding dust storm the British camp at Siingersfontein was shelled by the enemy, who immediately retired tn the cover of the neighbouring hills. The British Dragoons^ and Field Artillery pursued the retreating foe, drove them from the vicinity and greatly damaged their camp, Major General French shelled and wrecked the Colesburg road bridge in order to embarrass the retreat of the enemy. IMPRISONING AN ENGLI3H DOOIOR. An English doctor commandeered by the Boers attempted to desert, with the result that he has been sentenced lo four years' imprisonment. * The DeJagoa Customs officials seiz d a field signalling apparatus consigned to Pretoria. DEATH OF A SERGEANT AND TROOPER. The general manager of the South British Insurance Company at Auckland received the following cable., gram from Capetown yesterday after, noon: — '•■ In a gallant charge by the New Zealanders, Sergeant Gourlay and Trooper Connell were killed."
