Manawatu County Council.

* — , The monthly meeting of the Council , was held on Wednesday. — Present— Crs H. Hammond (in the chair), J. R. McLennan, F. Robinson, T. Masters, and T. Clark. Mr Wilson sent to say he was too ill to attend. The inward correspondence was dealt with as follows : — From Chief Surveyor, stating that provision had been made for three gravel reserves of one acre each in late J. Bull's estate. — Chief Surveyor to be referred to Council's previous communication on the matter, in which an equal area of land for gravel was demanded to that of the road included in land leased by the Crown. Council desired gravel reserve near river and declined to approve of plan submitted of the estate. From R. H. .Macmillan, calling attention to unsafe condition of bridge across main drain.— Overseer to strengthen bridge at once. From Treasury, stating that loan of £3500 for metalling Main Drain road was now available. From manager of tramway, reporting that during month the following goods had been carried: — Grain 53 tons, coal 58, merchandise 53, hemp 37, manure 65, wool 798 bales, chaff" two trucks, timber 29,153 ft, fares £11 12s. The total earnings, after deduction of charges for wharfage, steamer and railway were £146 14s 7d. Expenditure, £152 13s 3d. He was employing an extra man mostly to cut the grass. It was resolved — That the dog tax for current year be 2s 6d for sheep and cattle Jogs and 5s for others ; tenders to be invited for dog collars. That Anderson and Mclntyre be allowed to cut the flax in Carnarvon, Sandon and Waitohi ridings, at 3s per ton, to be removed within two months, except where required by the overseer. That tender of Stuart and Sons for contract 80 at 2s 6d per yard, and Karrahan's for 81 at 2s 6d per yard, be accepted ; and that fresh tenders be invited for remainder of contracts, also for formation of Couper's line. — Advocate.
