A Letter from Natal.
A lady living in Natal , about :60 miles froni the \Vaf, Writes dnder date of 15th November, 1899, as follows : — Thank you very much for the last two newspapers received from you, the last one, ro New Zealand Volunteer Contingent, reached us last week. I am glad New Zealand is so loyal a colony to fight for the dear old Mother Country. Poor Natal has the worst of it, because she is not only on the border of the two -rebellious States, but there are endless spies "and traitors living amongst us. Many have sworn allegiance to Her Majesty, many have farms in Natal and enjoyed all the privileges of loyal people, members a£ parliament, magistrates, &c, are fajfl to the core, and it is owing to tIAH wicTted people th-aw-me Boers hacf^^B audacity to enter Natal. Natal nothing to do with the war, butHH has to bear the brunt, and tflfl loyally she is behaving. AU^^H volunteers were called out beflH there -were not sufficient soldlers^HH now the}"**? aht side by side. volunteers are underlmperial oHH The whole of Natal is uri(ki-*-*--fIJBM[ law, i.e., under the military authors ties. One of our boys, who was in Durban, belonged to the volunteer corps, the Durban Light Infantry. He, with the rest of the volunteers has been at the front nearlyC'cven \__^m In his last letter he said fiJey haJß|||| out for a march of 6 miles out, 's_W_%_ ing their rifles and bayonets aiJHj|^ rounds of cartridges, and 6 miksJllnß to camp. He says they felt som|lgH tired— poor fellows. In the zhdWJBBm they had a bathe which re||SHg them.
