Friendly Societies' Sports.
We may look forward to a very Jarge crowd attending the sports in - 'Victoria Park on iSonday. if the | weather is line, and ns yet it has cleared up for all the holidays. The energetic secretary Mr S. Watson has done all he can to secure success and as all the visitors thoroughly enjoyed themselves last year, their pleasant recollections will urge them to repeat their visit and to bring their friends with them. To those in this district it merely be said that the sports will be well worth witnessing, as well as the crowd, and the Palmerston Town Band will play during the day. The park is such a nice place to pass a lazy day in, there being ample shade and where picnics to any number can be held, that the support given to the Societies locally should be large. We wF' trust the day and the outing may be p everything they can wish for. At the last meeting of the committee it was announced that tickets were selling freely. A special prize of a Christmas cake, donated by Mr A. Langley, of Foxton, was allocated to a local handicap of 75 yards. The following officials were appointed :— Judge, Mr Rhodes and Bro. T. P. Blake ; Starter, Bro. H. Palmer ; committee for juvenile races, Bros. Buchan, Forster, Follas, Browning and Lambert; "committee for post entry events, Bros. Canton, Griggs, Rush, Mitchell, Gittings and McCarty. There are 14 entries for the 440 yds handicap; 19 entries for the 220 yds; 30 entries for the 100 yd s; 14 entries for the i«oyds; and 7 entries for the bicycle handicap.
