The stewards are holding an inquiry into the running of Return.

After the Grandstand Handicap was decided on Tuesday a meeting of the Stewards was held to • consider the riding of T. Wilson in the Maiden Hack Race. It was alleged that Mr P'rosser's mare Leah was not ridden out by Wilson. The enquiry was adjourned for one week. W. Jorgensen, owner of Weary and Falka, was brought before the Stewards for having spoken in an improper manner to the starter. Mr Jorgensen was tendered some wholesome advice, which it is to be hoped he will remember. Marina was put up for sale by auction on the course on, Tuesday, but the mare was passed in at £210, the amount required being £300. Mr A. Cooper was the auctioneer. The Transvaal Stakes— the race run at the Manawatu Meeting on Tuesday in aid of the relief fund— is expected to net over £60. The exact figures are not yet available.— Times.
