Remember Others.
Efforts are being made in various places to do what lies in our 'power to mitigate the horrors of the present war in the Transvaal by lightening the troubles of the wives, parents, and children of our soldiers at the seat of war. Foxton has never been backward in any charitable work, and we have been holding back trusting that the ex-Mayor or the present Mayor would have moved in the matter. We are sure of a hearty response to any appeal, and have decided therefore to open a list at the ManAwatu Herald office, where subscriptions will be received and duly acknowledged in our columns. We would suggest that contributors should state whether the sum shall be wholly applied to the Home Fund or divided between that and the Colonial fund. We think that with the few men who are engaged on our part we can safely leave the protection to the colonists generally, and that the largest part should go to relieve the thousands in the Old Country who must sadly feel the loss of their bread winners at this the winter season there. Let us follow promptly and liberally Rudyard Kipling's advice not to forget the " Absent.minded beggar."
