The Wharf.
It will be remembered that when Mr Cadman, the Minister for Railways, visited Foxton, the need for some extra berthing at the wharf for small steamers was brought under his notice. Mr Cadman stated that this work was not in bis department, but he would lay the matter before his colleague, the Minister for Public Works. Mr Stevens has handed us a telegram which bears upon the subject :— "J. Stevens, Esq., Vi.H.R. Re mooring piles at wharf Manawatu. Hon. Mr Cadman has seen me re this, and I am obtaining an estimate of the cost. W. Hall-Jones." Mr R. Chapman, the Borough Engineer, has informed us that agreeably with instructions he has prepared a plan, having taken the necessary depths, and that Mr Seabury, the harbour-master has expressed his approval of them, and the plans have now been sent to the Minister for Public Works. It appears most likely that this great convenience will be secured to the owners of our small craft through the energetic representations of Mr John Stevens.
