Reports have been received from Mafeking as late at the 25th October, and from Kimberley up to the 29th. Both towns were safe at the dates mentioned. British troops are being assembled at De Aar, for the purpose of relieving Kimberley. The " Standard " states that Lieut.Colonel Carleton's force, which capitulated to the enemy, had two day' provisions. The Gloucestershire battalion occupied an advance position during the fighting. It is reported that the Boers are occupying Pomeroy, a small town in Natal, some thirty miles to the east of Ladysmith, in the vicinity of the Buffalo river.
