BATTLE IMMINENT.
General Sir George White again defeated- a force of Free State troops who were advancing seven miles to the North of Ladyemith. Lieutenant-Colonel Yule had only four thousand troops under him in Gleneoe.
It was ascertained that* twelve thousand Boers were advancing upon the town, and in the face of thpßtoverwhelming ■■ odds Colonel Yule found it judicious to -retire upon his base.
The total force which General White will be able to muster for th^ struggle now impending with th^ Boers is twelve thousand men.
On the other side there are known to be two thousand Free State troopto tbe north and wpst of Lidysmitb in addition to General Joubert'p army of twelve thousand. It is estimated that 30,000 Transvaalera and Frpp Rfatera are on the point of invading Natal. General Whiif reports that Lien-tenant-Oolonel Yule's forces are in the bast of spirit and enjpr for fi«hr.

The Boers treated the English burial panics at Elauds Laagte wiih great civility. British sentries provisioned foodleas Oracle Free Staters at Colesburg Bridge. The Boers report they are shelling
Mdfeking and several houses in tho town are in flames.
After the battle of Elands Laagte, Dec or Horn^bvook, advancing alone, summoned 40 Boers who had taken refuge in stores, to surrender. The summons was obeyed. Tho Boers said they were glad the fighting was over.
