The Transvaal.

THE BASUTOS.

Already the two Republics are seriously hampered by the difficulty of keeping in check the natives io their own and neighbouring territories.

Several B )er>.oommandos are required to overawe the Basutos, whose home is on the south east of the Orange Free State, and also thiSwazis, who live between th' eastern boundary of the Transvaal and the saa.

The threatening attitude of the Basutos is largely relieving th< danger to tha British at Aliwa! North, a town on the northern frontier of Cape Colony, just south of the Orange river, where th* loyalty of the Anglo-Dutch farmers has been much suspected.
