WITH THE BOERS.
The northern part of j&e Natal rail* way, which crosses Transvaal boundary at Lang's Nek, has been destroyed by the Boers, whose object is to prevent the British authorities from attempting operations by means of armoured trains.
The railway line in the vicinity of Lobatsi, about fifty miles north of Mafeking, has been destroyed by the Boers.
Similar destruction has been wrought at another station in that direction, named Aavogelkop. Taungs, a small town with a fort situated on the railway line between Kimberley and Vryburg eighty-four miles north of Kimberley, has been captured by the enemy. The Boers are being greatly impeded in their various advances into British ! territory by the breakdown of their I transport arrangements. ! All the Consuls of foreign Powers in Pretoria have issued notices enjoining their countrymen in the Transvaal tq maintain a neutral attitude in regard to the present struggle. \ The Consul for the Netherlands in Natal has issued a similar notice to Hollanders in that colony. The British first-class cruisers Niobe and Diadem, n,ooo tons each, hays been ordered to proceed to the Cape. Great Britain has accepted an offer made by the American Atlantic Transport Company of the gratuitous use of a marine hospital-ship. The Boers admit that they lost 70 killed wounded in the attack on Mateking. General White declares the Free State commando opposed to him at Ladysmith commenced hostilities- on the 17th inst. It is believed 30,000 militia will be summoned for garrison duty in Great Britain at a quarter of a million, thus affording the test of the War Office on the plan of mobilisation. The Transvaal refugees fund amounts to £117,000, including £20,---000 subscribed to the Stock Exchange.
The Cape Customs authorities impounded £150,000 aboard the Kinfaun Castle, consigned to the Transvaal.
