Manawatu County Council
The monthly meeting of the Council was held on Thursday. Present— Crs j. G. Wilson, H. Hammond, T. P. Hammond, J. McLennan, and F. Robinson. The inward correspondence was dealt with as follows : — From the Treasury, stating the proposed loan of £850 on account of Wirokino bridge was available. — Money to be applied for next February. From Foxton Borough Council, stating that progress payments had been made and were about to be made on account of the erection of Wirokino bridge, and asking Mariawatu Council to pay a portion of the current expenditure.—lt was decided to refer the Foxton Borough Council to Public Works Act, 1894. From J. Buckman and Mclntyre Anderson, asking permission to cut flax On the road lines and stating what they were prepared to pay igr the °Cr Clark said flax made good shelter j on some roads. He did not consider it advisable to allow flax to be cut. The Council agreed, and decided to ( give public notice prohibiting any person cutting flax on road lines. From Martin Boyle, stating he was prepared to go on with .his Stewart 1 line contract in a few days. From R. Chapman, Foxton, offering his services as engineer in the matter of protective works to the bank of the < Oroua river near Awahuri. To be informed this Council had no contr .1 over the work referred to. The manager of the tramway imported that the receipts from the l:i:c: during last month were £103 6s-Bd.and the expenditure £83 5s id. The goods carried were— grain 32 tons, mineral 60 tons, manure 3* tous, merchand.se 55 tons, hemp 24$ tons, chaff 12 tons, firewood 13 trucks, green flax 9 trucks, passenger fares, £6 17s 1 id. j The overseer's report was read and dealt with.
It was resolved — That J. Hillary's tender for the right of v. orking the Shannon Ferry and collecting the tolls thereon (tender £68) for one year be accepted. That Cr MeLcnnan be granted power to let contract oli Pyktfs toad, 30 chains side cutting formation near" Wilton Bros. That a committee consisting of the Chairman,Crs. Hammond and Master be appointed to pass the accounts, to meet at ti o'clock on Wednesday, Nov, I.— Advocate.
