Methodist Sale of Work.
■» The sale of work next Wednesday bids fair to be a great success, as the ladies have done all they can to secure its being so. We have been favoured with a view of some of the articles that will be for sale, and they number many most useful and homely articles, such as shirts, pinafores, children's underclothing and cushions. We saw a very handsomely arasene-worksd cushion, and two satin hand-painted ones : On a black ground were painted marguerite daisies and dark poppies, the work of Mrs Woollass, and the other, the work of Miss Austin, being a design of pansies and ferns on white satin. Some of the children's fancy smocks are gifts from Auckland. A painting by Mrs Woollass, being a view of Northcote, Auckland, was taken from the window of the house she resided in there, and is a harbour view with vessels in the foreground and a backing of hills. It will sell readily. In the evening there will be a promenade concert, and some good items have been secured, and it is probable that the Brass Band will play outside a few selections. Refreshments will be on sale, of a substantial and toothsome character. Mr John Stevens M.H.R. has been asked to perform the opening ceremony but a reply has been received that as he has an > important deputation to present to Ministers on that day he is unable to come. He is sending the ladies up a present.
