Manawatu County Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council was held on Wedne?day. Present— Crs J. G. Wilson (chairman), H. Hammond, T. R. Wilson, J. R. McLennan, T. Clark and T. Matthews. Inward correrpondenoe was dealt wtyh as follows : — From E. Pigott, ferryman at
Shannon, stating that be w<«B not liable to light the ferry. From the Government engineer, with account of £224 16s for repairs to locomotive. Fox ; also, in regard to points and rails for tramway. — Chairman empowered to get rails and points. From Under Secretary of Linda, stating that application for a subsidy for exteopion of tramway could not be acceded to. From Commission cv of Crown Lands, in answer to a request that a gravel reserve be made -on Mr Bull's property, stating that pro vision would be made. Resolved, That this Council agrees with the action of the Rangitikei Council in the matter of the Bulls bridge, but considers evenfcß have proved that a temporary bridge is necessary for the safety and convenience of the the publio pending the erection of the permanent bridge Which may be delayed indefinitely ; that the Chairman wait upon the Rangitikei C.C. at nest meeting to urge that the erection of a temporary bridge be proceeded with at once, ap that it be available next winter. Resolved, That tenders be called for the right of working the Shannon ferry, and collecting the tolls thereat, for a term of twelve months from Oct. 16, 1899. Terms to be similar to those for preceding year with additional conditions requiring a deposit of £10 and for burning of a light on the point when crossing after dark. The By-laws were passed. — Advocate.
