Fire.

In the early hours of Monday morning, between 2 and 8 a.m , a fire broke out in one of the out buildinga near the Otaki Catholic church. The Rev. Father Melu together with the Sisters of Meroy and one or two employees worked valiantly to prevent the flamea from spreading to the adjoining buildings, and by their united efforts were ahi . to save the old presbytery, whicb waa situated only a few feet from tbe burning building. Luckily there was no wind, otherwise a very serious loss might have resulted. As it was the outbuilding (consisting of storeroom, workshop and other rooms) was totally destroyed, together with its contents, comprising harness, caddies and bridles, tools eto. The loss is estimated at fully £100, ag there was no insurance on the build ing or article? . It is surmised that that the fire originated through a defective chimney — Mail.
