NOTES.

At the annual meeting last night attention was drawn, in the Secretary's report, to the squall debit -balance existing. Of course, as it will be seen from the statement of the expenditure, a large sum went away in building the new boatshed. The club wants more interest to be taken in its proceedings, wants more members, and wants the subscription of members paid up. We have no/dotibt Wat r wfien itiartnown how the club stands many more will join, as not tq^ave a .Rowings Club with the river we possess, $b&ld be very unwise. Nothing can be accomplished without money, but a great deal can be done by co-operation* and it would be well if the mertiters df the club sought some way by which funds* beyond subscriptions, could be obtained. Before now concerts were relied upon, and as the Rowing Club has made no appeal to the public for some years this would seem to be a good opportunity to test their appreciation. We have always been glad to see an interest taken in the river, both in boating and swimming, and medical men state that there is nothing to equal these two exercises for health.

There was some talk about a procession of boats on opening day. The plan as to how the opening might be celebrated would be by a procession which might be improved by inviting the Horowhenua club to join in, and getting the steam launches to carry the public but the day's proceedings cannot be left at that, and there should be a concert or a dance to iollow. In time as the season advanced, so that practise in the boats could be had m regatta might be held at the Long Keach, but this is a question that is at present away from the present finances of the club, which need replenishing. We hope the Club will be well supported, and would suggest to the committee the advisability of first making a canvass of suitable members.
