The Foxton Station.
From the details given in the Railways Statement we find that the iollowing business was transacted at the Foxtou Railway Station for the past twelvemonths : The traffic expenditure is set out as being 143 2d, and the total value of receipts as £5,430 19s ud. There were ir,i6B tickets issued, besides 72 season tickets. Parcels sent away numbered 981 and received 1722. Horses outwards were 37 and received 48. Only 2 carriages were t senj: away, but 5 were received. One unsatisfactory item is that though we got rid of 39 dogs yet as many as 73 were sent to us. The traffic shows a curious movement as 5 drays went away a.nd 10 arrived, 111 cattle went out and 77 came in, only one calf went away, but 2571 s.heep were trucked outwards and 1,026 came to us, 88 *pigs left but 137 arrived. We sent 240 tons of chaff, lime, &c, and got back 138 tons, 454 tons of wool left and 853 tonsjarrived, but probably all these arrivals left the port by steamer. There were 318 tons of firewood despatched and 1032 tont received, and 190 tons of timber came and 1,548 tons went away, also 1,006 tons of grain arrived,' and tons despatched. Merchandise outwards totalled 2,216 tons, and 1,042 tons inwards. In minerals 2,758 wdflt out and 4,722 tons came in. . The revenue of the station is divided as follows : — Ordinary passengers, £1,300 13s 3d; season tickets, £43 7s 6d ; parcels, luggage and mails, £106 14s ; and goods £3,970 5s 2CL,... From this it appears that tnestationmaster and staff have a very busy time, but even all their work does not appear as all the Government coal and railway material, which is large, does not show in these returns.
