The A.M.P. Society.

Copies of the fiftieth annual report of the Auatra ian Mutual ProTidenfc Society reached New York oa the 24th May. This splendid company, whicbis an illustration, of everything a life insurance company should be, is oWer than Dearly all tba American companies, Evidently life insurance made an early start in Australia. And it was not a false start. Our enterprising neighbour to the south of the Hawaiian Islands jhai been free, to a great tx'ent, from |^c imbecilities that have affictod the life insurance 'system in the United States. The business has been kept in the bands of educated men. The impossible has not been attempted, and the result if very gratifying to all concerned. The annual meeting the members of the Society was announced to be held in ihe hall of the Young Men's Christian Abpo ciation, at Sydney, on May 19th. This year's report is called a Jubilee re port, and it deserves the title. It ia made interesting by the reprinting of the din otors first anneal report, •Which w«h just m fotm^l »n3 exact in its tone as those which aw issued to day. The premium receipts of the first year were about 1800 dollars, the po'icies written covering 50,000 dollars, Now the assets amount to 75.000,000 dollar?. The dignity, and frankness which have always characterised the management of this company are worth of the highest po3*ible praise and encouragement,— The Insurance Times (New York), May, 1899.
