The court-martial at Rennei is again holding open sittings. M. Casimir-Perier, who was President; of the Bepublic at the time of he first court-martial, was the next witness. He declared that his resignation in 1895 was not caused by tb&te. Haootaux incident whiob arose out of the German Emperor's demand for a formal denial of thfl statement that the German Embassy was implicated with Dreyfus. He admitted that Colonel Picquart had 'old- him that the evidence of M. Bertillon, the handwriting expert who pronounced the bordereau to be in the writing of Dreyfus, bad not impressed the first court-martial. He admitted that M. WaldeckBousseau and M. Rjinach urg.d dim to direct that court-martial to sit in open Court, but he had replied that he was unable to intervene in the matter. But passionately denied pledging his word to the man accused of trenson that the court, martial should nob sit with closed doors. Witness insisted that a letter beariDg on the subject should be produced, even though hia name might be dragged through the mud, for he would not allow the dignity of France to be Boiled. Colonel Jouausfc promised that the letter would be produced.
