Manawatu County Council
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council was held on Wednesday. There were present — Crs. J. G. Wilson (chairman), H. Hammond, P. Clark, T. Mathews, F. Robinson and J. R. McLennan.
The inward correspondence was dealt with as follows : —
From the Marine Department, stating that E. A. Howe had complained that the wires of Shannon Ferry were obstructing navigation, and suggesting that light* be placed on ferry at night. Lights to be placed on ferry. The report of the Manager of the Tramway was read and considered. The report showed that there had been an excess of receipts over expenditure last month of £15 18s gd. The request for employment of another man for a short tim« to put the line in order was agreed to.
The proposed bye-laws to control heavy traffic were agreed to, and it was resolved to bring them into force on Ist October, 1899.
The Clerk was instructed to notify land owners who have allowed gorse to spread upon the roads that the Council was determined to have such gorse cleared away. The Chairman described the condition of the Foxton road.— Resolved, That thirty trucks of metal be purchased from the Government and laid down where directed on the Main road to Foxton.
