A Sea Tragedy.
A dreadful tragedy took pace on the steamsr Te Anau at 680 on Thursday morning;^bi^t^^Waael was off K*van3b>mrnV, ob net way up the Dunedin harbour^ ~|£iss Nellie Batley, a young lady" : pas> senger from Wellington, was accompanied by a nurse, expr<»6?eG a wish to have a bath. The r|ft.qest was granted, and on, the nurse leaving the bathroom for a few seconds Miss Batley' toim&Bately looked the door. A steward, while walking along the deck happened to look over the side, and saw Miss Batley looking out of the porthole. Knowing that Bbc had teen some* what strange in bur conduct he determined to watch her movements. Saeing the unfortunate woman squeeze her sbou'.dera out of the porthole, the steward raised the alarm " Man overboard." In arifew seconds a rescue boat was lowered and search was made, but without success. It ia therefore supposed that the poor girl must "have been struck by the propeller.
