Foxton Racing Club.

ANNUAL MEETING.

Last night the annual meeting of the above club was held in McMillan's old auction room. There was a very great proportion of the members present and the business went from start to finish evenly and without a stop, so that all was finished in threequarters of an hour. Mr E. S. Thynne, vice-president, was in the chair.

Tne minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed.

The Report and Balance-sheet were read and were as follows : —

REPORT OF COMMITTEE.

Your committee have again much pleasure in placing before you their annual report and balance-sheet showing the transactions of the Club for the past year, The Annual race meeting held on the 23rd and 24th January, 1899, was a record one for the Club as regards the attendance, the totalisator returns and the amount realised from the sale of privileges. The sum of £6774 was invested through the machine, being £975 in excess of the previous year, the nett proceeds from the sale of priviliges exceeded that of the previous year by £69 5s 6d, the members subscriptions also show an advance of £12 is 6d, this is due to the subscription being again raised to one guinea, while the nominations and acceptances have decreased by £22 10s. The expenditure shows the sum of £920 os Bd, the principal items being stakes £600, labour and improvements £85 os 3d, salaries £70 10s, printing and advertising £68 10s 2d.

The item of labour and improvements shown includes timber, iron, labour, &c, required for the erection of a new jockeys' room, which was much needed, and also timber and other material required for the addition and alterations to the totalisator house. Starting the year with a debit balance of £65 iis 8d the Club now have, after providing for these and other improvements, the sum of £43 16s lid to its credit. Your committee arranged with the Railway Department to run an excursion from Woodville on the first day of the race meeting at a cost of £17 16s Bd, of which £4 gs 6d was refunded by the Department, this experiment did not prove as successful as the committee anticipated. Your committee now retire according to rule.

Annual Balance of the Foxton Racing Club for the year ending 30th June, 1899.

Receipts. — To nominations and acceptances, £208 ; members 1 subscriptions, £39 18s ; totalisator returns, £611 8s 6d, less Government tax (£lOl 14s gd). £509 13s gd ; privileges, £269 us 6d ; training fees, £2 6s. Total, £1,029 9s 3d.

Expenditure.— Debit balance, £65 nsßd; by stakes, £600; advertising and printing, £68 ios 2d ; salaries : starter, £10 ios ; secretary, £30 ; handicapper, £30; labor and improvements, £85 os 3d ; rent, rates and insurance, £g ios lid ; Railway Department guarantee, £17 16s Bd, less refund (£4 gs 6d), £13 7s 2d ; Turf Registers, £1 ns6d; N.£. Racing Conference, £2 ; labor and attendance (race days), £8 12s ; Otaki Maori Band, £15 ; luncheons, £15 7s 6d ; J. H. Hankins, £7 18s 2d ; stamps, telegrams, and exchange, £7 15s ; bank interest, £4 us gd; correct cards, £1 ios; sundries, £8 16s 3d ; total, £gBS 12s 4d. Balance, £43 1 6s 1 id. Nixon, Timekeeper; J. Cummerfield, Clerk of Scales; J. Andrews, Clerk of Course; J. Overend, Auditor. On the motion of G. Gray, seconded by J. Howan, John Stevens, M.H.R., was elected J udge. On a ballot being taken the following were elected as Stewards and Committee : — W. Robinson, J. Overend, W. Pnrcell, J. Howan, W. B. Rhodes, H. Thynne and W. Barber. W. Hunter, F. Jones and Hamuera were elected members.

A vote of thanks to the chair con eluded the meeting.
