DREYFUS.
It has transpired that when the captivity of Dreyfus on Devil's Island had lasted for two years, the prisoner received a telegram bearing the French Colonial Office stamp, and stating that hisjsvife had given birth to a child.
It has also come out that the authorities of the penal settlement; arranged a pretended night rescue in order to test the fidelity of the warders.
Before this the warders had received instructions that they were to shoot Dreyfus if he evinced the least degire to escape. On a watering on tha occasion of the sham alarm, Dreyfus found a warder's revolver placed at hia, head, bat he remained passive/ Several newspaper correspondents in their communications indicate that the French Government fears that an attempt will be made to assassinate Dreyfus at Bennes, and is taking preventive measures.
