Northcote's Kinematograph.

Notwithstanding the threatening weather a large audience assembled at the Theatre Royal last night (Tuesday) to witness the first exhibition of Northcote's Kinematograph. The entertainment, if anything, surpassed expectations and must be characterised as one of the brightest and most picturesque shows of its kind that has been seen here. The views were of a superior class to those shown in Palmerston previously, says the Standard, and the prolonged applause and redemands after almost every picture were unmistakable signs ot the keen appreciation of those present. . . . The pictures illustrating stirring events in the American-Spanish war, including diving for bodies on the ill-fated Maine, met with a great reception. In the second part of the programme there were also several pictures of striking merit, Highlanders leaving Cairo for the Soudan, "Faust-up-to-date" and the pillow fight in the ladies' boarding-school. Before the conclusion of the first part of the programme Miss Nita Beresford rendered the serio-comic song " Nora O'Grady," and her pleasing effort was rewarded with an encore. Mr St. George was likewise successful in his humorous vocal contributions, while Mr Fred Norris as a skatist literally brought down the house. Mr M. Northcote gave a clever exhibition as a shadowgraphist, the wonderful shadows thrown on the glass by the aid of only " eight fingers and two thumbs" taking the audience completely by surprise^ The musical display by "the Happy St. George's" was quite a revelation. Besides getting off a number of happy witticisms, which put the audience in continual merriment, a short selection was played with remarkable skill on almost every instrument under the sun.

This company appear at the Foxton Public Hall to-night, and we advise all not to miss the opportunity of witnessing one of the best entertainments of its kind now in the colony.
