The Steele-Payne Company.

Those old Port Elizabeth favourites, the Payne Family of Musicans and Bellringers, opened a short season here at the Opera House, when a capital programme was presented. Their entertainment is one of the. most enjoyable and popular of its kind, and never fails to delight the audiences which flock to see the concerts. The combination is as brilliant as ever, and comprises the same artistes as before, who seem only to improve as the years go by. The programme was just fitted to suit the tastes, it being the aim of the Payne Family to hit the happy medium in their entertainments, and not to givd a concert above the heads of the people. The campanological items, as usual, evoked great applause and repeated demands for encores, which in some cases were granted. The lovely music elicited from the sleigh bells was listened to with rapt interest and drew forth thunders of applause from all parts of the house. The graceful movement of the prettily attired lady, Miss Lizzie Payne, who evoked the sweetest and most fascinating music with variations piano and forte from these strings of bells added to the charm of the music, and simply took the house by storm. — Cape Colony Herald.
