DREYFUS. M. L*bon, who wag French Colonial Minister in 1897, has midp a statement in which he justifies h\? action in ordering Dreyfus to b° placed in irons during part of hip incarceration on Devil's Island. M. L°bon states that he had information that an American vessel was in the neighbourhood of the Settlement with the object of trying to effect the rescue of the prisoner. Dreyfus is studying the depositions taken at his first trial. When he learned that secret documents had been shown to the court-martial, he expressed extreme suprise, and exclaimed, " They did not try me ; they murd red me."
