A Strange Story.
A strange atory is ot present beiop told at Rainton, near Newcastle. Upwards of twnty years ago, p young woman named Harriet Simppon lived at Rainton as domestic servant wi h a family in the village. Being a shady and industrious turn, •t>he caved a sum of £50. This phe intended to invest in a biok at Newoastle. and for this purpose prooepdfd one day to the city named. On re: ching the bank she discovered eh c had been robbed of the money. The picket in which the cash was carried was cut out. Nothing was learned as to who the thief or thieves werr, and Miss Simpson rpturned to her master's house, and she remained in service since the time

Miss Simpson went in London, and at the interview with r.he soliciiors she wa-iofovmpd that the £100 already Hunt was hor lo^t £50, and an additional £50. Shi wa9 also informed that the eamt» person who had sent the £100 had leff. hfr a yeir'y piyment of £20. Who her benefactor was oou d not lta-n. Miss Simpson n w intends to retire from service and live upon the annuity and money ■<ent to ncr unctar eiu-h singular circumstances.
