President Steyn, adds the " Standard," realises that the people of the Orange Free State disapprove of Boer corruption, and would be unwilling to fight for the Transvaal.
The " Pall Mall Gazette " states that the Marquis of Laoadowne, Secretary of State for the War Dc partment, is ready to despatch from 40,000 to 50,000 troops to South Africa ; but Great Britain is nevertheless anxious to avoid doing anything that would be suggestive of a menace to the Transvaal Govern ment.
An Imperial officer who has just arrived at Sydney from Capetown, states that British troops from the Indian frontier are arriving in South Africa by every steamer, and that immense quantities of army supplies and forage are being accumulated there in various distributing centres.
