The Stock Market.

-Messrs Abraham and Williams re port as follows : —

Sales have been held this week at Pahiatua md Palmerston. At Pahiatua the yards were well filled with both sheep and cattle and a successful sale resulted, only three pens of sheep and a few lqts of c?ttle, for which ontside value was expected, leaving the yards unsold. At Palmerston an average entry came forward. Very little business was done under the hammer, bids being difficult to extract. In most cases deals were effected after the sale by vendors reducing their reserves. We quote : — Palmerston — Sheep: Fat and forward wethers, 13/5 ; 2 and 4-tooth wethers. 10/2 to 10/4 ; fat and forward ewes, 8/- to 8/6 ; mixed lambs, 8/1 ; others, 6/1 1 ; culls, 3/8 to 4/1 1 ; ewes in lamb, 6/9. Cattle: Light .fat bullocks, 5/10/- ; forward bullocks, 4/2/6 ; fat cows, 4/0/. to 4/5/- ; light fat cows, 3/5/- to 3/10/-; springing dairy cows, 3/17/6 to 5/10/- ; empty heifers, 2/4/- ; 18-months steers, 2/0/- ; weaners, 1/4/6; store cows, 2/15/-; Oows in calf, 2/12/6.

The chief interest of the day at Mr Matthew Henry's sale last week was a line of 130 well forward bacon pigs from Mr Hammond, Rata, and the fact that they had to go a begging for a buyer, demonstrates the necessity for a bacon curing factory. A large proportion of the consignment being ready to kill. The whole line were eventually cleared. Forward pigs, making 32/-, Borders 20/-, stores 18/-. Cattle, forward bullocks 4/-/- to 4/7/-, fat cows 3/7/6, dairy cows, 6/10/- ; forward ewes, 8/1 1, weaner pigs, 9/-.
